Set Your Quit Smoking Date
Okay, right before you set your quit date, make sure you’ve completed all the preparation work in How to Quit Smoking. (If you’ve already quit smoking and could just use some help staying smoke-free, go to Staying Quit.)
Don’t set your date too far off in the future.
That may give you too much time to start in with all the rationalizing, and you may end up changing your mind. Pick a day that’s about a month away. It can be a special day, like your birthday, your anniversary or just the first of the month.Pick a day that doesn’t have built-in problems.
If the holidays are hard for you, maybe January 1 will be a better quit date. While you’re choosing, consider also that quitting on a vacation may sound like a low-stress way to quit, but it’s probably better to quit during a time that resembles your regular life.One last thing: Don’t pick tomorrow as your quit date either.
