Re-learn Habit is one step in the process of How to Quit Smoking. Here you will study your smoking pattern, identify triggers and break the “glue” between trigger and cigarette.

Separation Exercise

Now that we’ve given you some ideas on how to separate your smoking triggers and cigarettes, it’s time to actually practice doing it. What are ways you can break the glue between your smoking triggers and a cigarette? Use the form on the right to keep track of what you’ll do for each smoking trigger.

Before you quit smoking, practice separating each smoking trigger from its cigarette. Remember, you don’t have to give up the cigarette entirely. Just don’t automatically smoke the cigarette when the trigger hits. Wait a few minutes and then smoke the cigarette. The next time it hits, wait a few minutes more. The more you practice, the more you’ll be ready for your quit day.
